Every bride dreams of creating a truly memorable wedding day but many worry about cost. The truth is, you can have a gorgeous wedding but without spending thousands of dollars. In fact, with the right decorations, the church and reception hall can be beautifully adorned. The key is spending money on the right decorations for a perfect wedding. So, here are a few tips on how to get the look you want with the budget you have. Many couples working with a budget find themselves disappointed with the selection of halls or churches that they can afford for the wedding. Sometimes, the hall is too gloomy and dark, it might have stark white walls, or perhaps the reception hall is painted a shade that completely clashes with the wedding colors. If this type of reception hall is all you can find within your financial means, then use decorations to mask inadequacies or brighten things up. Although you will have a wide variety of decorations to choose from, often a bride will opt for flowers as a way to breathe life into a room. For example, place a small wedding arch at the entrance of the reception hall, or decorate the room with colored bells positioned throughout the hall. Remember, adding accents of color is an excellent way to change both the look and feel of a room. Depending on your choices, you can bring warmth to a cold feeling room or create a sense of vibrancy for a darker room. Decorating a wedding that is scheduled near a major holiday can be exciting. Valentine’s Day, for example, is a great time to get married. Decorate the church and reception hall with hearts, puffy clouds, and other seasonal decorations. For a Fall wedding, take advantage of the traditional colors associated with harvest. For instance, use various colored leaves for centerpieces or hang them from the ceiling. Even a cowboy or swinging 60s themed wedding could be enhanced with the right decorations. Many brides believe that elaborate decorations are extremely costly or difficult to find. However, you would be amazed at what a little creativity will do. For instance, gather your friends and family before the wedding and host a decoration party. In addition to making decorations by hand, you are also creating an occasion for family and friends to mingle and share stories. Obviously, the money you would save is tremendous over the cost of store bought items. Decorations for your wedding are only limited by your imagination. If you have a plain dance floor, purchase a dozen helium balloons matching the wedding colors. Then, use coordinating ribbon tied to a small sandbag and place the balloons at the corners of the floor or randomly around the dance area. For centerpieces, you could purchase glass globes at a local hobby store. Spray paint dried lima beans gold or silver and fill each globe halfway with the colored beans. Then, in the center of each globe, place a colored tea light candle. In conclusion, use color to change to feel of sterile or stark white rooms. Lighter or brightly flowers will add warmth to darker settings. Wedding decorations do not have to be expensive to be beautiful. There Are No Forbidden Holiday Foods

By Tracie Johanson CNN reported that a traditional holiday meal can pack more than 2,000 calories and 135 grams of fat (Friday 12-10-04 www.cnn.com). WOW! That’s a lot of calories and fat! Most of those ‘extra’ holiday calories don’t come from super-high-fat foods, either, and that’s our topic for today. Most of those extra holiday calories come from the 2nd, 3rd and 4th helpings! See, it’s not so much that the holidays are full of hyper-caloric foods, but it’s that we tend to ignore portion sizes during the holidays. Fitness experts know that no food is strictly forbidden. There should not be any (or many) foods that we avoid completely 100% of the time. Why? Because that sets us up for failure! If fudge is one of our favorites, and we force ourselves to NOT eat fudge at the holiday party, then for many of us what we’ve done is set ourselves up for a binge fudge-festival. Avoiding our favorite foods entirely takes some fun out of the holidays and sets us up for binge-eating. That’s a recipe for disaster! A much better approach is to ENJOY FOODS IN MODERATION. Watch those serving sizes! Enjoy and savor ONE piece of fudge! It’s better to enjoy one piece of fudge and then stop than attempt to deprive ourselves entirely, only to end up eating the whole pan. It’s also important to keep in mind the cost of the foods we eat. We’re not talking about dollars and cents here, but the FITNESS cost of the food. When picking up that fudge, let’s keep in mind what it will cost us to enjoy that fudge. When picking up a plate at the buffet table, let’s take a moment to pause and think to ourselves: “The cost of this fudge will be an extra _____ minutes of exercise…..is that worth it to me?” Maybe. Maybe not. That’s for each of us to decide on our own. The point is that we should be conscious of our food decisions. No foods are forbidden entirely, but we do need to watch our portion sizes and carefully consider the cost of each food. That’s the real recipe for holiday “treat” success!
